The rapidly growing ‘Rights of Nature’ movement seeks to weigh and balance the rights of humans against those of the whole Earth community. Ecuador have recognised Mother Nature in their constitution, Bolivia and more than two dozen municipal governments in the USA have Rights of Nature legislation and in New Zealand, the Whanganui River ecosystem has been granted ‘personhood’ rights. So where does Australia figure in this movement?

In partnership with the Sustainable Engineering Society, join Beyond Zero Emission’s Brisbane Branch for the screening of "Generation Green", a 13 minute documentary that follows the journey BZE’s lead Stationary Energy Plan and Transport Plan researcher Patrick Hearps.
 
The documentary will be complemented by a live Q&A with documentary producer Laura Noonan, and followed by food and drinks in the foyer.

Repower Port Augusta - The Solar Thermal proposal to replace coal

Repower Port Augusta is a proposal to replace aging coal plants Playford B and Northern in South Australia with solar thermal and wind power.
 
Six solar thermal plants and ninety five wind turbines will replace the 4650 GWhrs that the coal plants produce on average (based on 2008-2009 generation levels), which equates to 31% of South Australia's electricity supply requirements.
 

Toxic materials as a recycled product in Qld Road Pavements

The seminar provided a brief background on the uses of toxic material in pavements around the world.

There are numerous toxic materials that can be used as recycled products in road pavements.  These include used tyres, waste from power plants and construction waste.

The topic covered looked at the overall picture on how this industry has come about in the US (California), and how Recycled Roads pavements can implement similar systems in Queensland.
