Part 1 - Backflow Prevention

Steve Posselt, Managing Director Australian Water Engineers, as a supplier of backflow prevention devices will describe available devices with comments on suitability for the Brisbane River.

Steve is the most experienced engineer in Australia in the design and manufacture of these devices.  The presentation will range from the most fundamental concepts to state of the art design and materials.
He will also share his views on the appropriateness, or otherwise, of the devices and the role of engineers in providing them.

Any opinions expressed by Steve will be offered in the spirit of inspiring informed debate and do not reflect the opinions of Engineers Australia or the Society.

There will be time available after the presentations for discussion and questions to the presenter.

Part 2 - Postponed

The presentation by Max Winders that was previously advertised as a partner to Steve’s has been postponed.

Max Winders is the principal of MWA Environmental – a specialist environmental engineering consultancy with expertise in using hydrodynamic modelling to evaluate opportunities and constraints to existing and proposed development in flood-sensitive areas.

He has been involved in investigations for Brisbane City Council, given evidence to the flood enquiry, and has carried out a number of investigations for private clients seeking advice on insurance claims and increasing their properties’ flood resilience.

Max looks forward to sharing his views on a number of issues which are still being canvassed in the media - including the extent to which the management of the dams in January 2011 may have contributed to the level of flood damage suffered downstream, and what governments are doing to improve the situation for the future.
