UK Barrister and acclaimed author Polly Higgins is in Australia talking about her work and the urgency of making Ecocide a crime. At the heart of the law of Ecocide is the good governance of our Earth, to prevent dangerous industrial activity and create a legal duty of care on all nations. For more information visit: http://
Clients, design teams and constructors often see the natural world as something that stands in the way of their projects. The recent growth in offsets schemes has heightened this view, and led to the mindset that any ecosystem can be replaced or paid for. Polly Higgins will challenge these views and propose instead that strong governance systems that protect ecosystem health are extremely good for business.
Polly Higgins is a UK Barrister and author of two books - Eradicating Ecocide and Earth is Our Business. Her main focus of work is on leadership crime, and she claims that the plight of our time is the abject failure of leadership and the lack of a legal duty of care for the Earth. In 2010 Polly proposed to the United Nations a law that will create a legal duty of care on all nations to prevent loss and damage to the planet on a global scale. Polly argues that such a law will create the legislative framework at a global level, to make Earth our core business.
