Urban Development Impacted by High Groundwater

Tue, 2019-10-22 21:25 -- 6147839
Date:
Monday, November 11, 2019 - 12:00
Event:
Presenter:
Jim Davies, Alex Rogers
Venue:
Engineers Australia Perth Auditorium. 712 Murray Street West Perth, 6005
Event Details:

This session will provide an overview of the hydrological processes which determine high groundwater conditions. The topics include hydraulic conductivity, specific yield, Darcy’s Law, recharge rates, rainfall regimes, climate change and appropriate models and parameter values.

Specifically the talk will address hydrological engineering design of (i) sizing of infiltration basins and (ii) subsoil drainage for control of groundwater levels.

The presentation is based on over 30 years of WA experience in urban hydrology applied to major subdivision projects.

The talk will present case studies and reference the software used to successfully design the infiltration basins and subsoil drainage.

About the speakers:

Jim Davies: Managing Director JDA Consultant Hydrologists, Subiaco

Dr Jim Davies, Managing Director and Senior Principal Hydrologist at JDA, founded the Company in 1991. Dr Davies is an expert in the fields of engineering hydrology and environmental hydrology including data collection, analysis and modelling. He is experienced in both surface hydrology and groundwater hydrology with particular experience in flood estimation, open channel hydraulics, computer modelling, urban and rural drainage design, nutrient and sediment studies, and groundwater investigation.

Alex Rogers: Principal Engineering Hydrologist JDA Consultant Hydrologists, Subiaco

Alex Rogers is a Principal Engineering Hydrologist at JDA Consultant Hydrologists and has over 20 years of experience in hydrology in WA. He provides a technical lead on the application of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling within JDA, in particular the implementation of the revised Australian Rainfall and Runoff.
Alex’s experience comes from projects all over the state, particularly servicing urban development and mining industries. This includes the characterisation, modelling and management of surface water, groundwater and infiltration.
